Play Therapist and Parent Trainer
Emily is a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern under the supervision of Brandy Schumann, PhD. Emily earned a Master of Science degree in Counseling with a specialty in Play Therapy from the University of North Texas, the top-ranked play therapy program in the world. In addition to specialized training in Play Therapy, Emily’s education and experience involves Activity Therapy, Adolescent Counseling, Group Therapy, and Filial Therapy. Her work experience includes UNT’s Child and Family Resource Clinic, where Emily worked with children, adolescents, and adults seeking counseling for a wide range of concerns. She also has experience working closely with students, teachers, and school counselors in numerous school districts, including Denton ISD, and with families affected by child abuse at the Child Advocacy Centers in both Denton and Brazos County.
Emily believes counseling is beneficial for individuals of all ages who are looking for support in reaching personal goals. Emily’s main goal is to provide a supportive and nonjudgmental environment in which one feels safe enough to engage in self-exploration and achieve change. Emily strives to understand each person’s unique story in order to help facilitate happiness and feelings of success.
Emily is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Counseling at the University of North Texas. Through her doctoral work, Emily is achieving additional experience serving clients, educating future counselors, and conducting research and presentations to further the field.
